Jodhpurs are essential for English riding, whether you plan on just hacking at home or competing
in hunter/jumping shows. They are designed to be worn comfortably with tall boots or paddock boots and with chaps as
well. The style allows you to be able to move comfortably without any rubbing or chaffing occurring.
Most jodhpurs have a leather patch or padding on the inside of the knee to give you more grip in
the saddle. You will also find some styles that have the grip all the way up over the seat, but this style is less
popular with show jumpers. When it comes to colour, it's really up to you what you go with. You'll find jodhpurs in
every colour, from bright blue to muted grey. However, keep in mind that the more professional look is a beige
colour. Don't forget to look at the ankle of the breeches. If you are going to be wearing tall boots, your breeches
should have a velcro closure at the ankle. For paddock boots, you'll want an elastic band or stirrup to keep the
jodhpurs in place.
If you plan on competing, you'll need a pair of beige or khaki jodhpurs. For the classics and
high level jumpers, you'll also need a nice pair of white jodhpurs. If you are just starting out, any brand will
work for your jodhpurs. You can choose between brands like Ariat, Tuff Rider, Dublin, Derby and more. However, if
you are riding at high level competitions, you'll want to invest in a pair of Tailored Sportsman jodhpurs which is
the popular look and style at rated hunter/jumper shows.
