Great Deals on Dressage Tails | Formal Equestrian Clothing
If you are new to dressage and want to start competing, you will need to outfit yourself with
the proper clothing and equipment. One important item is your dressage coat. Here is a quick guide to help you get
started shopping for your next dressage coat.
The most common colour for dressage coats are dark colours like black and navy. The jacket
should be tailored to fit your body and have four buttons (as opposed to the three-button jacket used in
hunter/jumpers). The back will also have a single vent instead of a double vent used in show jumping. You will also
find dressage tails, but this style is only used by Prix St. George level riders, so you'll want to stay away from
these if you are just starting out.
When you start shopping for your dressage coat, it's vital that you get one that fits you
nicely. Dressage coats are designed to be tailored to fit your body perfectly. You will also want to make sure the
sleeves and length of the coat are long enough but not too big that you end up swimming in the jacket. It's also a
good idea to look at the material of the jacket. Most traditional coats or dressage tails are made from wool, but
they can be very hot when competing in the summer months. For a lighter jacket, look for man-made blends designed
to keep you cool.
One really nice brand for dressage coats is Pikeur. The style is classic and beautiful,
especially the Diana. Other great brands include Ovation, Eurostar, Dublin and Devon Aire.
